This Friday is Literacy Day at Queen E.  The kids have read The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs! by Jon Scieszka.  After they created wanted posters about the pigs in the story.  Other activities will be focused around “Guess Who?” and “Where’s Waldo?”.  Here are some pictures we have taken to share about our upcoming spirit day.

E28 has received the parcel we sent!

Today is Chinese New Year's Eve and the day we post every red couplets on our doors, walls and ....everywhere!  I am so glad that E28 has also received  our little parcel and put all the red things we sent on the bulletin board.  What a lovely scene! And wish you all good lucks during the Year of Dragon!
January 20, 2012 (from Mr. Saulnier)

Wow!  What an amazing parcel.  Your class was really generous and we are really excited about the items you sent us.  You can see our bulletin boards are now decorated for Chinese New Year!  We framed the lovely calligraphy by Steven Lee to keep as a keepsake for years to come.

E28 is brainstorming some items to send you.  We are trying to think of some things that represent our community and Canada.  Hopefully we can make you a craft too.

Here is a short slideshow of us enjoying the package:

Skype with Ziliya's class, Russia

Thanks to Ziliya and her class!  By means of the meeting, my students are willing to study English harder in the future although they have only 80-minute English class each week.  Now they know English is a need for them to communicate with friends of other nations.  What an exciting experience!

Wow! It is so cold there in Lloydminster

January 16, 2012  (by Mr. Saulnier)

The snow finally arrived over the weekend.  Also the cold weather has entered with a vengeance.  This morning in Lloydminster it is minus 26 degrees Celsius.  With the wind chill it feels like minus 37 degrees Celsius.  I notice today in Koahsiung the projected high is 22 degrees Celsius.  That means you are 59 degrees warmer than us today.  Yikes!  When it is colder than minus 25 degree Celsius it is too cold for the students to go outside as there is a risk that they will get frost bite (skin freezes).  During their recess breaks they play games inside the classroom rather than heading outside to play

Another unique thing about being super cold outside is that we have to plug in our vehicles.  It is plugged into the block heater to keep the engine block from freezing up.  This helps ensure that our vehicles start when it is this cold.

The pictures below are taken by the Queen Elizabeth teachers parking lot this morning.

Thanks to the teachers who took the amazing photos for us.  We are very impressed!  I only saw real snow once and my students...have not seen it in real life yet.

Calligraphy on Red Couplet

Our ICT teacher Steven Lee showed us calligraphy on red couplet-- the traditional decoration in Chinese New Year.
